angel wrote a new blog post: Good news for temporary residents who want to buy a home in Australia   10 months, 2 weeks ago

The Australian Government’s twenty year old rules applying to temporary residents buying property in Australia have just been relaxed. Yippee!

What does this mean? Previously if you were a temporary resident you had to notify the Foreign Investment Review Board of your proposed purchase and had to comply with restrictions on resale and development.

Moving to a new country or state can cause emotions that we never thought would appear during such an adventurous time. We make a decision to move and our nerves and excitement take over in anticipation of what our new home will be like.

Although I personally believe that it is important to maintain this sense [...]

thehappymigrant wrote a new blog post: Driving in a new country or state   1 year, 2 months ago

After a move to a new country or a new state you may find driving in a new place rather stressful. Driving culture is different in all places, sometimes subtly so and sometimes enough to fear stepping in to the car at all.

Before moving to Australia I lived in New Zealand for three years. In [...]

If you’ve never been to Australia, you probaly have a picture of the place in your mind. The sterotypes are hard to break. kangaroos, the surf and bronzed Bondi bodies. Sydney is one of the world’s iconic cities and yes, you do experience that, “wow moment”, when you stand in front of the Opera [...]

So you are heading Down Under, looking forward to the beach and barbie lifestyle and spending as much time in the cafes as they do on Home and Away. Surely there won’t be anything you could miss of your old life…. could there? Actually there might be one or two tiny things.

    People: Of course your [...]

angel wrote a new blog post: How much will you earn in Australia?   1 year, 3 months ago

With all the stress of filling out visa applications, having urine tests and passports stamped, this is a question that is often further down the research list than it should be.

The current average annual wage in Australia is $60,000.

When we migrated we actually didn’t really know if our income would be enough to maintain [...]

Well I will qualify that, once you get here that is.

I read this great article yesterday in the Weekend Australian about doing Sydney, “dollarwise”. “Thrills without Frills”

Find the best places to experience gorgeous walks, great picnics and enjoy all the fun of the fair.

You can’t beat the, pinch yourself feeling, of a ferry ride [...]
